War and Displacement in Wales
The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. All over the country, we remember combatants and communities. One of the war’s lesser-known aspects is that of displacement – over 60 million people were displaced in Europe alone, including many to Wales.
We are holding a new exhibition that includes artwork, artefacts and migration stories of those displaced to Wales during the first half of the 20th century: of refugees, prisoners of war, and evacuees from elsewhere in Britain. It also features pieces from those who have arrived in Wales more recently due to conflict and war, including from Ukraine and Syria.
The exhibition opened on 14 June in Gallery 2 of the Aberystwyth Arts Centre, where it will be on display until 26 October. From 7 November until 22 January it will move to the Senedd Gallery in Cardiff.
